I just seen your game screen, it make me wonder how is the story in this game. But I just downloaded in few minutes, the file is no found. Is this something wrong in the game files ?

I've log out and download the game from 2 different computer and no problem downloading, the files are there and playable. Do you use winrar to unzip the file? Also the game are not support for mac.

If you still facing any problem than I'm sorry, I have no idea what causing this. Maybe try to contact itch.io support.

I must say, I'm quite excited for the continued devlopment of this game. Characters with varying sizes, interesting personalities, etc. I see a lot of potential and can't wait for more

Lots of real life happening at the moment, but I still making the game just slow pace right now.

Last update for the demo should be out before end of the year.

Just checking. No need to rush, this year or next year. Don't push yourself too much. Even 12419 billion trillion dollars companies can't go in time and you make much superior game than most of them for less and by yourself.

(WARNING LONG COMMENT)

Alright. I'll be honest, while it said that the average playtime was around 1 hour, I've played Frozen Soil for 5 to 6 hours and I think I can provide a decent feedback.

About the Story

From what I understood we play as a human who's part of a team of space mercenaries who came to earth which is now in a permanent ice age and filled with eldritch abomination. We got 2 mission: help someone's named Gorro and meet up with a compagny of Soil Hunters who wants to dig up some soil of Earth since it's great to farm...

Wow. Honestly I really like the plot and while we know Earth's been invade by aliens centuries ago, all of this raises so much questions and it's fantastic. Personally, I'd love to see how Earth's climate changed and what remains of human civilisation, That's an amazing plot and I can't wait to learn more about it.

Gorro's quest serves to introduce some other characters. I'm not going to spoil it if someone is reading this.

Landscape, arts, music and design

Personally, I love snow so I'm biased here. Even tho snow is fantastic, the fact that all maps are made on RPGM is honorable. The parallax mapping on some maps is well done and so is the static background in the garage or the ship (I'm curious, how did you manage to add a static background?)

As for the character design... Well, it's just furries and fan service for the most part, but it's relatively soft compared to what's already existing and most importantly, it's not everywhere and enjoyable. As for the non-furries it's well done. For ennemies, I their design is horrifying for the most part and that's cool, nothing more to say about that.

Musics, same things... I LOVE SNOW LANDSCAPE WITH PIANO. I don't know if theses musics are already in RPGM or if you/someone made it, idk but it's good.

Lastly, animations... It's impeccable, specially the special combat skills (repairs, healing, 9mm shots and that damn eating animation wich feels like you made it a 24fps animation just for it).

Game mechanics

Exploration in the snowy landscape is standart. Nothing new really. As for the frozen forest, the events where you jump to an elevated ground and use it to dodge ennemies is really well made, hope you'll find some more exploration mechanics like that (maybe switch from deployed character to perform special movement skills ? That could be cool).

The combat mechanics are the weakest aspect in the game in my opinion unfortunately. Not saying it's bad, but weird. In combat you got the special habilities which cost consummables to perform. That's in fact a clever idea, but we get so much ammo for everything that you got no ammo managment to make and just spam the same attacks over and over again (only exception being Yarunna since she got a special attack that cost TP and not consummables). There are ways to balance it and make special abilities more special than just being regular attacks. Here are some ideas :

1 – You could add an ability usage limit for a fight and remove the ammo consummables (it can make inventory managment easier with less items).

2 – You can add a cooldown for each ability while keeping the consummables system, so you can't spam it at all time.

3 – Add the ability usage limit, not removing the ammo consummables but adding a rearm ability to make the fight be more intesting and adapting your tactics for each fights (maybe even bound the rearm capacity to a new support character?)

The second issue I have with combat is the scaling and how weak the player character (PC) feels like. At the beginning of the game you got the PC and Yoyo. Both are at the same level but Yoyo is just better at every stats. This does not make any sense since the player is in a tank which is geared to withstand the hardest the ennemies smashing at it. It should have more HP than anyone else (and for god sakes, it got an energy shield! Give it at least a support ability to increase global defense of the party). At the opposite, you got Yarunna. She got decent abilities that consist not to lobotomize yourself and keep attacking and that's the only reason I like her... definitively... I swear.

The issue is her scaling. I understand that everything in her physic means STRENGTH, but she currently act as a damage dealer and a tank even tho her defense is below average and can't be increased. I see that he vision was to make her some kind of a glass canon. This is unfortunately unbalanced due to her HP scaling and her regeneration per turn capacity that overshadows her ability to eat during fight. What I would do is :

  • decrease her HP scaling
  • remove the effect of her extra equipment that heals her each turn and turn its effect into an HP bonus
  • modify the eat ability by adding the regeneration bonus for X turns

Overall, this game is fantastic and I hope to see more of it :)

I keep throwing ammo to the players because I don't want the game to be too hard, but noted will definitely make adjustment.

Eh Yarunna is tankish? Some player complaint she is too easy to die especially the last battle if Virone are not recruited. Will looking into it and thanks for the suggestion!

i feel like a good character that could add a more unique roll would be a sorta hyper tank character, maybe with a regen ability, but next to no offensive prowess, just a absolute unit at taking damage, but not dealing ANYTHING back, maybe even a 'taunt' ability that doubles the chance of enemies to lock onto him instead, so your party isn't totally safe, but he can keep a lot more heat off the rest of your units

Damn. btw for some reason I was looking at adult tags, and this popped up. I dunno if that was an unintentional error on itch.io cause it has been a bit wonky lately. However from what I heard this game is actually really well made and has nice dialogue to go with it. I may try it out one day. I'll give out what I think if I end up trying out the game.

Warning, a rather stupidly long comment about an hour long demo and most likely missing the game's point.

 Good game, not great but very high potential. Although not a fan of "guy with beautiful women go to adventure" troupe, I enjoy the story for most of the time. I like the fact that in cutscenes or in rest, the members do exist even without talking. I also like about it's simplicity yet intriguing story, knowing well when to just go right into it, when to long story chatting and when to let the player find the story by themselves. The story also have good "wall" between funny quirky time with the girls and serious life threatening situation. It's probably just me high on coffee when playing this game but jokes are funny, even though sometime it didn't try to be joking ( WHY AM I SO FUCKING SHORT)

 And for someone who enjoy rpgmaker combat I say this game combat fine.It remind of Lisa and it's fangames, where it's repetitive yet still feel engaging. I believe I learn most of characters traits from combat, which mean you try to put characteristics in their combat animations, which is good.

Loot from battle is fine. Art is marvelous. Some enemies are interesting. Choice of location is legendary.

Can't wait for more.

 Critiques or opinions, but i believe these could be set aside by the fact its very early version and what kind of exactly this game is and the fact I am stupid, but since I wish this game have great success in the end, I dont care:

1) Skills limited by resources is good idea, as these people are not from the planet mean they have limited resources. However, the resources are abundance which remove the "limiting" aspect. I suggest to downgrade most of the scavenge reward from ammo to money or useless items that only can be sold. Equipment scavenge reward however is fine. HOWEVER, this maybe by the fact I bought alot of ammunition from the tree merchant.

2) Map enemies are sparse. I suggest increase the frequency of battle in there, but don't too much.

3) Most grouped enemies are too simple to fight especially when Virone is in the party. I suggest putting down high priority enemy in group and lower mass attack damage. Like holy damn I could one shot them with Virone attack.

4) I never sold an item, it's probably my frugal habit in RPGmaker games but most reward money (battle, scavenge, quest) can be the budget for basically everything. Kinda sad because it could be monster hunting type where monsters drop their special reward that could be sell, but that is my opinion.

I straying too far. I believe it would be still great game even nothing really change. I am probably going to regret writing this and please just ignore if it make you mad. Tq.

1-Yea some player already state this issue, I keep throwing ammo to the players because i fear they will be put off if lack of ammo or the difficulty are too high. Noted and will be adjust.

I think the best option for 1 would be to have a sort of easy / hard mode. it doesn't need to be too complicated, just reducing how much ammo you find would be good so then players can have a choice, but ideally you could do something like how Terraria (if you know what that is) handles expert mode, in that bosses are harder but they drop powerful / gimmicky items. maybe I'm putting too much thought into this though lol

I give a lot of ammo to player because I don't want the demo to be too hard, will definitely adjust amount of ammo in the future version. 

Not sure will make difficulty mode but planning to put in a lot of hidden bosses.

yeah, neato. If you're going to have secret bosses then I don't reckon a difficulty mode is necessary, especially if finding them feels as rewarding as finding the hidden bunker without a guide. Love the game so far, it's definitely one of my favourite size games already!

Absolutely wonderful! 

Only thing I dislike is that it doesn't matter what armor or weapon you chose, the models will stay the same. At least make optional change of appearance please. 

Would be also cool to have some romantic time with these girls, but it is totally okay if it's not about that. 


Also I did not find the Key for that forrest bird thing. But it's okay.

Romance option so far are Yarunna, Yoyo, Autumn,Yaz and maybe Virone. Working on the hot spring scenes at the moment after that will start working on dating. Romance only really start after the demo in the main story stage.

Would be AWESOME to have size difference sequences between girls, either have MC romancing all of them at the same time or maybe just girls themeselves go down on each other. But size difference is a must, I am telling you! Missed opportunity if no size difference in romance.

In Pine Grave there is a place where it falls high, in the bottom there is a hidden wall.

Go in grab the key from the locker then go open the gate.
